News to start 2024!

Welcome to another year of Emotion Coaching!

The Emotion Coaching UK team is working hard to keep you connected and provide you with updates.

Here are some updates and new resources

1. EMOTION COACHING 'STEP 3' UPDATE: SETTING EXPECTATIONS

You will be familiar with Step 3 as 'Setting Limitations'. After some discussion and years of participating in reflective discussions about the challenges of Step 3, we have updated the language to 'Setting Expectations'. We feel this is more in keeping with the idea of a developmental approach to emotional regulation, promoting continued empathy and kindness rather than encouraging a more black and white possibly punitive approach, which can result in all the good work of steps 1 and 2 being undone and children and young people 'flipping their lids' again. 'Setting expectations' continues to acknowledge that some behaviour is inappropriate in some settings.

2. NEW FREE RESOURCES: TWO NEW SETS OF EMOTION STYLES VIDEOS

You can find two new sets of videos demonstrating the four different styles of responding to children and young people's emotions; emotion disapproving, emotion dismissing, laissez-faire, emotion coaching.

a. 'THE PRIMARY SCHOOL LUNCHTIME' VIDEOS

The videos show responses by Mrs P (lunchtime supervisor) to 7 year old Darla and her distressed friend, Noah.

b. THE 'WORKING ONE-TO-ONE WITH LIV' VIDEOS

These videos show responses by an adult working on a one-to one basis with Liv, a young person in care.

Many thanks to Geese Theatre Company for working with us on the videos.

3. TALKING HEADS VIDEOS EACH ADDRESSING A FAQ ABOUT EMOTION COACHING

Answers all provided up practitioners who use Emotion Coaching in their everyday interactions with children.

If you subscribe to our You Tube channel, you will receive immediate notifications of any new videos we upload!
